A stock system is designed to reduce and if possible eliminate all the noise produced by your vehicle. Because of this, the axle-back exhaust system does not impact the flow or pressure of the exhaust gases in any way. The axle-back exhaust system uses the factory exhaust pipe which does not have a large diameter. This offers even more breathing space for the engine thus better performance. Most cat-back exhaust systems are customized and not universal. One is to replace specific parts like with cat-back exhaust systems.

Next we have the option we refer to as the Cat-back system (sometimes also known as “with Front Pipe” exhaust). One of the most noticeable changes after installing a cat-back exhaust system is the sound. The exhaust note becomes deeper and more pronounced, giving your vehicle a more aggressive tone. The specific sound varies depending on the muffler and pipe design, allowing drivers to choose a system that matches their preference for loudness and pitch.

This modification includes the pipes, muffler, and sometimes the resonator. The term “cat-back” itself signifies that everything behind the vehicle’s catalytic converter is being upgraded or replaced. For the interior, Shelby adds carbon-fiber trim, billet racing pedals, custom floor mats, and a serialized plaque. For lean-burn spark-ignition engines, an oxidation catalyst is used in the same manner as in a diesel engine. This exhaust is going to sound the deepest and give you some nice pops and bangs, while also giving you real world WHP and TQ gains. For this version, we do recommend a tune and a device like a Ktuner V2 or Hondata Flashpro to take full advantage. Since the OEM catalyst is replaced with the downpipe, the Turbo-back system is sold for Race Use Only. Beyond these incremental advantages, there’s not much to tell cat-back and regular exhausts apart, as they are commonly made from the same types of materials in roughly the same shape. Most newer vehicles have electronic fuel injection systems, and do not require air injection systems in their exhausts. Instead, they provide a precisely controlled air-fuel mixture that quickly and continually cycles between lean and rich combustion. Depending on your make and model, cat back exhaust systems can lead to an increase in fuel economy. The engine doesn’t have to work as hard pushing exhaust gases through the piping which reduces its load and leads to higher efficiency and MPG. For car enthusiasts and performance drivers, upgrading the exhaust system of a vehicle is a no-brainer.

One issue is that the system can become clogged with dust and debris over time, causing reduced performance. This can be remedied by regularly cleaning the system with compressed air or a soft brush. Finally, it’s always a good idea to check for leaks after installation.
